how many of you have armed themselves?
by buffalosrfree ini recently bought a high powered rifle and am presently buying a pistol for back-up.
i have a cross bow, a compound bow, and several swords and knives, in fact i have been collecting knives for some time and have learned how to use them in defending myself and in taking the initiative in learning to defend myself.
i am quite versed in using both the croww bow and the compound bow, it seems the goverment doesn't want to defend us and just wants to unarm us.

Lets go to the church but stand outside
by Wordly Andre ini am so sick of this!
i have a split family, some non-jw and some jw, and ever since i was a young kid, ive noticed this silly fear of entering a church, i remember i must have been about 9 years old when my uncle died and my family went to the funeral, but we stood outside, and even at that young age i remember it felt wrong, like we were disrespecting my dead uncle and his family.
like ive wrote on this board before, i told my parents when at 15 i didnt want to go to meetings anymore and was never baptized, when i was 18 my great uncle died and at the funeral i went into the church for mass, when it was over i walked outside all the rest of my family were outside waiting, they all gave me dirty looks like i was just caught with a prostitute.

I have a split family, some non-JW and some JW, and ever since I was a young kid, I’ve noticed this silly fear of entering a church, I remember I must have been about 9 years old when my uncle died and my family went to the funeral, but we stood outside, and even at that young age I remember it felt wrong, like we were disrespecting my dead uncle and his family.
Like I’ve wrote on this board before, I told my parents when at 15 I didn’t want to go to meetings anymore and was never baptized, when I was 18 my great uncle died and at the funeral I went into the church for mass, when it was over I walked outside all the rest of my family were outside waiting, they all gave me dirty looks like I was just caught with a prostitute. Ever since then I’ve gone inside any church no matter what Funerals, weddings, baptisms, whatever!
Fast forward this November I will be celebrating my 2 nd wedding anniversary, I converted to Catholicism a few years before we met, we had a great big wonderful Catholic wedding, my family did not attend the ceremony I couldn’t help but look down at the grooms side and feel horrible, the space left open for my mom was empty, the flower bouquet that was suppose to be for her was left on the seat. At the end of the wedding after photos and such I walked outside to the limo and there was most of my family waiting outside the church. My mother didn’t even come inside to take a photo with my wife and me, we had to go to a park to take photographs, and I wish they knew how bad it hurts.
WHY DO THEY DO THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think some JW's have a very unnatural n onchalant view when it comes to the loss of a loved one, its almost like they look around to others in the hall and “Better not grieve for too long Might show little faith in the resurrection” meanwhile to non-JW’s family members it appears to be very cold, almost like they really don’t care about the loss of that loved one. This seems to be pretty typical in my family. I wouln't doubt that in some crazy hall's they "suggest" where to burry the DF persons!

Children and school assembly
by dobbie inmy little child in the uk starts school soon.
i wasn't brought up a jw and am inactive but there are lots of other jw children going and apparently are'nt allowed to go to school assemblies.
i can't remember anything wrong with school assemblies and i think it's daft to keep my child in a separate room while its going on.

Wordly Andre
I remember some that I was not allowed to attend, such as Holidays, other than that some assemblys were for awards and such, don't think that was not allowed. Maybe JW's parents don't want to confuse their kids with the worldly assemblys and theirs.

How much did you put in the contribution box?
by jayhawk1 ini think as the prices of gas, health care, housing and other things continue to rise, the jw without a great education will struggle to put much in the contribution box.
it got me to thinking, how much did my family put in the contribution box at the kingdom hall.
this is what i estimate for the final 5 years i went 1994-1999.... $10.00 per week for about 5 years.

I don't mess with them either, but I'm sure our honest Bruders and Slysters wouldn't dare lie about something like that!

Came out to my parents
by jstalin injust wanted to write about my experience in coming out to my parents in the last two weeks.
it's a long story, but my sister and i are both gay, but we haven't come out to our parents until now.
my sister and i have been debating with each other the best way to come out to them because we've known that it would be a serious blow to them.

Jstalin,
Score 1 for us Catholic's, about 5 years ago 2 of my cousins came out, all the JW's in my family do not talk to them, but they are really great people, my grandma who is Catholic says "well they are still my grandkids no matter what". I have had a few gay friends, and now family, I've seen what it can do to them when family doesn't accept them, its too aweful, Anyway I am happy for you good luck in your relationship.

Remember when KH's had a piano and real singing?
by WingCommander inthe thread about got me thinking about my very early childhood, back when witnesses were allowed to be social and have get togethers.
they also had a piano in every congregation i ever attended, and an older sister would always play the kingdom melody.
there was actual singing - not mindless droning and humming.
-
Wordly Andre
wow I remember it when I was a kid, They don't have piano's anymore? Maybe if they would let the younger generations go to school maybe someone could have taken a piano class.

JW's asking for money
by sinis inmy wife was telling my jw friend who is visiting that for the past few meetings the brothers have been telling the cong that no one is donating and that they need money.
i told her it sounded like the end was coming.
she looked at me puzzled, as my friend did, and i explained what charley had originally said about when the money dried up it meant the jehovah no longer needed them.

At least when Churches ask for money it does go to some good, When was the last time you heard of hunger relief that the JW were involved in, or help for the homeless? Money for AIDS babies? They only care about helping themselves, and never fellow man, well especially if that fellow man is worldly or unknown! Yes at my church they do ask for special donations, but we see what we are helping, a young priest who didn't speak much english was helping a poor village in Mexico, another special donation was only asking for pocket change, they were helping un-wed mother who wanted to have an abortion, they gave them the option to give up the baby instead of abortion. Tell me if JW's money ever goes to anything like that.
